Hundreds of kids will be going to camp thanks to the YMCA and Rotary Club of North Bay’s Fill The Bus campaign.

Over $71,000 was raised during Thursday’s fundraiser with donations continuing to come in, both in person and online.

“We’re sending over five busloads of kids to camp, just to put it in context for people,” says Nicole Beattie, VP of Philanthropy, Marketing & Communications at the Y. “That’s hundreds of kids from around the North Bay area that will get to experience Y camp this summer.”

Fill the Bus is designed to help families cover the cost of sending their child to camp with every $275 raised adding a kid to the bus.

The total includes $4,000 raised at Thursday night’s Battalion game and a $25,000 matching donation from Northern Ontario Film Studios.

“People are welcome to drop off their donations to the Y. We fundraise all year round, but this is our big campaign,” says Beattie. “We open up camp registration for our overnight camp at John Island in November.”

Thursday’s events included Mike and Kevin’s Big Camp Adventure.

Morning radio show hosts, Mike Monaghan with 106.3 Jet FM and Country 90.5 FM’s Kevin Oschefski ventured around the city in a school bus competing in camp-related competitions and collecting donations.
