Six local organizations launched a joint fundraiser called “Catch the Ace (of Spades) Raffle Ticket Draw” at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 23 in North Bay today. Initially 7 local organizations and programs will be the beneficiaries of the available funds raised
The six organizations that have come together are the Rotary Club of North Bay, Rotaract Club of North Bay-Nipissing, North Bay Lions Club, Widdifield Lions Club, Kiwanis Club of Nipissing and the North Bay Chapter of the Association of Canadian Travellers.

Based on the popular raffle ticket draws know as “Chase the Ace” that have been operating very successfully in the Atlantic provinces over the past couple of years, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) recently approved the licencing of a similar type of draw here.

North Bay’s Catch the Ace will take place in the Dress Lounge at the legion each Friday, starting on May 12. Initially a maximum of 1,000 tickets per week for $5 each will be sold from 3:30 to 6:30 pm, with the draw at 7 pm.

The buyer will identify the number of the envelope that he/she believes the ace of spades is in on their ticket. The buyer whose ticket that has been drawn will receive 20% percent of that day’s sales.

Thirty (30%) percent of each day’s sales will go towards the ‘Progressive Accumulating Jackpot’.

The remaining 50% of the day’s sales, less expenses, will be going to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice, North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation, Kiwanis Music Festival, The Gathering Place, DARE Program, PADDLE Program and the Salvation Army.

The number of the envelope that the buyer believes the ace of spades is in will be drawn. The ticket buyer does not have to be present at the draw.

If the ace of spades is in the envelope, then the buyer receives the twenty (20%) percent of that day’s sales plus the Progressive Accumulating Jackpot amount.

If the ace of spades is not in the envelope, the draw will continue the following week. The envelope and the playing card that has been drawn each night will be destroyed so as the draw progresses, the number of envelopes and playing cards available to be picked go down.

If in fact the weekly draw reached the maximum of 20 weeks is possible the accumulating jackpot could end up as high as $30,000.

Rotary Club President, Natalie MacDougall, commented “This is the first time in quite a few years that a number of organizations have come together on a fundraising initiative here in the City of North Bay”.
