The new Rotary Playground was officially opened today, with a ribbon cutting ceremony with Mayor Peter Chirico, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli, and members of the Rotary Clubs of North Bay and North Bay-Nipissing.

“Centrally located near the North Bay and Dionne Quints museums, the multi-use courts, the upcoming all-wheel park, and the soon-to-be reconstructed Main Street, the Rotary Playground is a fantastic new amenity that adds to the vibrancy of the Downtown Waterfront,” said Mayor Peter Chirico. “We are grateful to MPP Fedeli and the province of Ontario for their support, as well as to the Rotary Clubs of North Bay and North Bay-Nipissing for their generous contribution.”

Guided by consultations from the City Parks Master Plan, the $1.2 million playground project received $437,693 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation and $110,000 from the Rotary Clubs.

“Through targeted NOHFC investments, our government is building strong, connected and prosperous communities in North Bay and across Nipissing,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “We are proud to support municipal partners on projects that build vibrant recreational amenities that enhance the quality of life for families living in North Bay.”

The playground features two engaging play structures—a boat and a lighthouse—along with an accessible rubber safety surface, sensory play centre, seating areas, lighting, and landscaping.

“We’re thrilled to open the new Rotary playground, and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing sponsors,” said Rotary spokesman Bill Hagborg. “It’s a space where families and kids can have fun and connect. We’re pleased to contribute to the enhancement of the Downtown Waterfront and excited to see how it’s already being enjoyed.
After the ribbon-cutting MPP Fedeli and Mayor Chirico proceeded to try out one of the slides on the lighthouse structure.
