WEEKLY BULLETIN
JUNE 3, 2025

Monday's off-site meeting was held at the Miskwaadesi site (Painted Turtle) where we started with an amazing lunch prepared by Sandra Thorkelson and her team at the North Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre.  We had moose sliders, wild rice with fruit, pickerel and freshly made, still warm bannock.  After a smudging ceremony, we heard from both Maurice Switzer and Sandra Thorkelson some teachings about the significance of the site as well as teachings about the Indigenous People.  Thank you so much to Sandra, her team at the Centre and Maurice.

Our meeting on Monday, June 9th will be in the Map Room at Cecil's. Our planned guest speaker is unable to attend so the meeting will be an open discussion around a few different topics.  With Rose Day coming up next weekend, we will hear some history around Rose Day.  The Council on Legislation met and there are some changes that were voted in which can/will affect many clubs so we will go over some of those.  We will also take a look at Clubrunner with some basics on how to log in, how to send emails and member information.

Meeting in person at Cecil's Brewhouse, Map Room. There will be Zoom available for those that cannot attend in person.  Here is the Zoom link information in case any of you are not able to get in through the web site link:

The Board had approved funding for a pediatric crash cart for the West Nipissing General Hospital and we have been invited to the media release where we will do the Big Cheque presentation.  Please join us on June 27th at 1:30 for the presentation.  The address for the hospital is 725 Coursol Road, Sturgeon Falls.  Please let Jeff Hobbs know if you are able to attend as the hospital would like to know the number of Rotarians to expect.

Our Rotary4Kids event this year was a great success - thank you to everyone on the committee and all those that came out to the various events that happened.  Dylan Rivenback was chosen as ambassador and he did an amazing job in promoting and helping out with the event.  You can learn more about Dylan here:   https://rotary4kids.ca/meet-our-r4k-ambassador/
Dylan has a wonderful sense of humor and at the flag raising ceremony, he said he was going to be going after Mayor Peter Chirico's job.  Well, he got his wish (sort of).  Dylan will be Mayor for the Day!  There will be a kick-off to start things off for Dylan in his role on June 19th at 11:00 at Lee Park.  I invite you to come out to show your appreciation for all that Dylan did to help make Rotary4Kids such a success this year! Look out, Mayor Chirico - Dylan is coming for your job!

Mark your calendars for the Canada Day event on Tuesday, July 1st.  Our club has been asked to help hand out the cupcakes again this year.  Last year was a lot of fun seeing the smiles on children (young and old) enjoying the cupcakes.  It was a bit messy but definitely worth a bit of red icing all over you so if you are able to join in the fun, we will be sending out a sign up sheet soon.  The cupcakes will be handed out at the A.C.T. Shelter from noon - 1:00.
