The saying is that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb… here's hoping that is true as I read the temperature outside as -23!!!! Oh My!!!!
Apologies for the lack of news/updates by way of our club bulletin but after returning from the Rotary HHART trip to Dominican, I did wind up coming down with a pretty bad cold so out of commission. The trip there was so worth it! The schoolhouse construction is complete - just some finishing touches inside and getting the furnishings such as shelving units, desks, chairs and supplies for the teachers. Education is the first step in getting out of the cycle of poverty and through HHART's work, it has incredibly changed the lives of many people that we have been working with in the small village of Cangrejo for many years now. Three of our members went down with me and they worked very hard to make this dream come true for the children. Thank you so much to Ghislaine Cote, Yvonne Taylor and Bill Hagborg for all your hard work and giving the people of Cangrejo hope - letting them know that there are people in the world that care about them! We are back to Monday noon meetings at Cecil's Map Room and had Lana Mitchell from LIPI give us some information on what LIPI does in our community. Our club partnered with LIPI - Santa Fund in 2025 where our Literacy Committee put together some amazing books and other literacy items for many of the households in our community. It was a lot of work as the items purchased were targeted to age groups within the families. LIPI does so much in our community and hearing how Lana became involved was very moving. March 9 meeting will take place in the Grande as this will be our Great Student Awards event. Space will be limited so do come early to ensure you have a seat - first come, first serve seating. Our Youth Exchange representative will also be there to introduce herself. Come out to meet the amazing students from our schools and meet Tala Woodhouse - our Youth Exchange representative!
The board will be meeting to review budget items for next year so it is important to all committee chairs/directors to ensure that you let President Jeff know as soon as possible what your committee plans are for spending for next year so we can put it into the budget lines. If a committee does not have a budget submitted then the board can only assume there will be no funds needed for that committee. If you have any questions or need any guidance in putting together your budget request/needs, please do ask your Director or President Jeff.
