Rotary Club of North Bay

Weekly bulletin - May 13, 2023

Our meeting on Monday started with a presentation by North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation to explain to us more about the retinal camera and benefits of having one.  Our Club donated $25,000 towards this screening tool for the neonatal department.  We hope to set up a tour in the near future!

We had a question about stats and Tammy Morrison did send a reply to share with you:

"Here is the NICU stats to share with your members:
At our facility all premature newborns are cared for under the NICU. Newborns that are born 36-33.6, called late preterms are able to stay with mom if they are stable but they are still under the care of NICU.
Not all premature babies require ROP exams- it is usually the ones born before 30 weeks or are very small for gestation. They may need more than one exam and follow-up."

# of births
737
# of NICU patients
192

Camp Tillicum was up next in our agenda.  Bob Cunningham gave us an update on the financial situation with the Camp and need for raising money to pay back the debt.  The option we are looking at currently is to sever some of the property and sell it.  The Tillicum Board has asked individuals who are knowledgeable in this area to advise on the process and updates will follow as they come up.  There is a need to fund raise as well as the sale of the land will not be enough to cover the debt in full.  If anyone would like to help out with ideas for fundraising, please let Bob or other Tillicum Board members know.
