Congratulations to the YMCA Peace Award winners! Our club sponsored the lunch at the annual YMCA Peace Week Awards event and there were two recipients of the award. It was great to see so many of our members there to help celebrate YMCA's Peace Week.
The individual Peace Medal was awarded to Sue Symons for her work with Grace’s Boutique, a dignified and supportive initiative created in partnership with Royal LePage to support women from local shelters as they rebuild their lives.Through donated clothing, personal care items, and a curated shopping experience with a stylist, Grace’s Boutique helps women access workplace essentials while restoring confidence, dignity, and choice during transition.
St. Joseph Scollard Hall Bears Who Care were awarded the YMCA Peace Medal for their tremendous dedication to fostering a more compassionate and inclusive community, exemplifying the values represented by the PEACE acronym:
Participate in building community
Empower others
Advocate for inclusion
Celebrate diversity
Empathize with others
Reflecting on the honour, Mme Lauzon shared, “Being recognized reminds us that small acts of kindness can create a big impact. Our students feel proud knowing their efforts truly make a difference in our community.”
The Rotary Foundation is proud to announce that we have recently received a four-star rating — the highest level possible — for the 17th consecutive year from Charity Navigator, an independent charity evaluator in the United States.
Charity Navigator determines its ratings by examining how nonprofits use their funds, how sustainable their programs are, and how well they adhere to industry standards of transparency and accountability. You can learn more about how Rotary does that in our most recent annual report.
Your support of The Rotary Foundation inspires others and directly makes a difference with initiatives around the world as well as projects based in your local community.
At the November 25th meeting, we will have both Tamika Daniels and Mukti Suvedi giving their Vocational Talks. Come out to get to know them both a bit better! We will be back at Cecil's Map Room at noon.
Join us right after the meeting for a photo opp when we get to see the books that have been received for the Santa Fund. We will be meeting at 320 Ski Club Rd at 1:30 where you will see the work the Literacy Committee has been doing ….. these books have been specially selected in partnership with University of Nipissing so they will be delivered from a list supplied by Santa Fund to ensure the books are age appropriate and for 450 homes in our community. We also worked with Goodminds to obtain beautiful Indigenous books as well. Over 1700 children will benefit from this project by the Literacy Committee.
There is a board meeting on November 27th at 5:15 in the Map Room at Cecil's. Members are welcome to attend as guests if you would like to see what your board does and how decisions made by the board affect the club.
Now, to get you in the mood for the season, please take note of the following:

The Nipissing Club has invited our members/family/friends to their Nature Walk. Each semester, the Rotary Club of Nipissing hosts one or more placement students from Canadore. This year, Jill Mossel from the Recreation and Leisure Services Program at Canadore is one of their students. Part of their school work is to organize and run a project/event. Jill has chosen to work with the Club to organize a Community Nature Walk. Here are the details:
We are delighted to invite you to a gentle and enjoyable Community Nature Walk designed especially for the VIPs of The Village at Canadore, members of the Rotary Clubs and friends of Rotary.
This relaxed outing will take place on:
Date: December 02, 2025 Time: 12:00 – 13:30 Location: Laurier Woods (entrance at Laurier Ave) Duration: Approximately 60–90 minutes. (2.5-3 km)
Our walk will be slow-paced and senior-friendly, with plenty of rest stops, benches, and opportunities to enjoy the sights, sounds, and fresh air of the outdoors. Trained volunteers from Canadore College, School of Sport and Recreation, and the Rotary Club will be there to offer support, conversation, and companionship throughout the walk.
During the outing, we’ll also enjoy a gentle Senses Nature Activity, focusing on what we can see, hear, and feel around us—an uplifting and calming way to connect with nature.
At the end of the walk, we’ll gather for light refreshments and friendly conversation.
What to Bring:
Comfortable walking shoes, preferably hiking boots for winter.
Weather-appropriate clothing
Water (we’ll have extra available)
Hiking poles, if possible.
A smile and a sense of curiosity!
No costs for participation.
We would be honored to have you join us for this uplifting outdoor experience. Please RSVP to Jill Mossel at email: jillsmossel@gmail.com by December 01, 2025 or by using the link below.
